BUILT INSIDE A WORKING PLUMBING + HVAC BUSINESS • OWNER-TO-OWNER AI ADVISORY

IN THE TRUCK / NICK JOHNSON

AI FOR THE PEOPLE RUNNING THE TRUCKS.

I run a home service business. I use AI and automation in it every day. Now I help other owners find what will actually save their team time, protect the customer experience, and make the business easier to run.

INSIDE THE OPERATING BUSINESS

FROM MY SHOP.
IN THE FIELD.

The work behind these images is the same work behind my advice: technicians, customer homes, trucks, and daily handoffs that have to hold up in the field.

THE POINT

AI IS ALREADY CHANGING THE SHOP. YOU STILL HAVE A BUSINESS TO RUN.

Most owners have no spare week to test every new tool. I have done that work while answering calls, managing dispatch, supporting technicians, and watching the numbers. I help you choose the few moves that fit your operation, then put them to work with your people.

THE WORK / NOT ANOTHER TOOL PILE

CONNECT THE WHOLE JOB.

Useful AI sits inside the handoffs that already determine whether a job gets booked, completed, followed up, and learned from.

01 / INBOUNDCall & lead

Catch demand and capture the right context.

02 / OFFICEBooking & dispatch

Give the crew a clean handoff.

03 / FIELDTechnician & job

Keep judgment and craft with the people doing the work.

04 / AFTERFollow-up & billing

Close open estimates and admin loops.

05 / OWNERNumbers & decisions

See what deserves attention next.

The loop is built around your team and software. ServiceTitan is one stack I know firsthand; it is not a requirement to talk.

REAL WORKFLOWS / INSIDE MY BUSINESS

WHAT RUNS
IN MY SHOP.

These are the operating loops I am building and refining in my plumbing and HVAC business. Event-driven handoffs happen in minutes; scheduled checks run on their own cadence.

01 / PAID LEADS

Automate lead disputes.

My lead-dispute workflow connects the call, transcript, provider settings, and ServiceTitan booking. Automated checks flag questionable charges and prepare the evidence for a dispute. Provider rules and service menus get checked before a claim goes out.

REAL EXAMPLE

A well-pump lead prompted us to check the provider’s active service menu before challenging the charge. That check also exposed settings that needed attention.

02 / INBOUND CALLS

One alert that gets smarter.

Answered and missed calls flow into a dispatch alert with the outcome, handler, and transcript when available. A ServiceTitan lookup enriches that same alert after a seven-minute wait, so the team gets job context without a second message.

REAL EXAMPLE

A call alert can start with the conversation, then update with the matching ServiceTitan customer or job record when it is ready.

03 / INSTALL CREWS

Send the job, including photos.

The moment an install is ready, the assigned crew gets an alert with scope, job notes, and photos. They can see what was sold and what they are walking into without hunting through messages or calling the office.

IN THE FIELD

A tankless install handoff can put equipment details, arrival information, site photos, and crew notes together in one alert.

04 / JOB CLOSEOUT

Review the work before it closes.

Completed-job photos and notes are checked against the scope and relevant plumbing or HVAC code references. Missing evidence or a possible issue gets flagged before closeout. A qualified person makes the final call on the work.

IN THE FIELD

A completion review can catch a missing required photo or a code question while the job is still fresh, instead of after the invoice is closed.

05 / CUSTOMER OUTREACH

Text when the weather makes it useful.

Local forecast signals feed segmented text campaigns tied to the services a homeowner may need. The message and audience fit the condition, and the workflow can start within minutes of a trigger.

REAL EXAMPLE

Incoming heavy rain can trigger a sump-pump check-in for the right customers; a heat spike can prompt an AC message for another group.

06 / OFFICE FOLLOW-THROUGH

Catch the quiet misses.

A weekday permit check looks for open jobs that require a filing but do not show one yet. It excludes completed jobs and routes the remaining exceptions to the people responsible.

REAL EXAMPLE

The office sees a short list of permit gaps to resolve instead of manually searching every open job.

The hard part is the handoff. Calls, lead-provider rules, ServiceTitan records, job photos, code references, weather, and customer history have to line up. I build the connections around the people who own the decision.

WHERE I START LOOKING

FOUR PLACES TIME LEAKS.

We will find the first opportunity in your actual week, then measure whether the change helps.

01

Missed calls

When the phone rings during a rush or after hours, make sure the right person gets the right context fast.

02

Open estimates

Give follow-up a clear owner and cadence so good opportunities do not disappear in an inbox.

03

Field to office

Cut duplicate entry and unclear handoffs between the technician, dispatcher, and biller.

04

Owner visibility

Turn scattered reports into a short list of decisions you can make before the next week starts.

WHO PICKS UP THE CALL

I’M NICK.
I LIVE THIS.

My dad was a carpenter. I saw how a skilled trades business could struggle when demand and follow-up were hard to manage. After Whetstone High School and time at Ohio State, I built a career in fintech, data science, software, and AI. Then I came home and started a plumbing business with no trade experience.

I learned the operation from the inside: the phone, the dispatch board, the tech handoff, payroll, and the jobs that slip between systems. I added HVAC alongside plumbing using the same operating foundation. I still run the business whose numbers you see above.

STRAIGHT ANSWERS

BEFORE WE TALK.

What happens in the free call?

I show you the operating flow and the ServiceTitan dashboard with customer and employee details hidden. You tell me where the friction is. We decide whether there is a useful next step.

Do I have to use ServiceTitan?

No. It is the system I use in my own company. We start with the tools and team you already have.

Will you push a specific AI product?

I recommend a workflow only when it addresses a real operating problem. The plan may involve your current software, a new tool, a process change, or a mix.

What does paid work cost?

After the call I can propose a defined scope and fee for us to review. The 30-minute conversation is free and carries no obligation.

30 MINUTES / FREE / NO OBLIGATION

LET’S LOOK AT YOUR SHOP.

I’ll show you the real operation behind the proof, hear what is slowing your team down, and tell you where I would start.
